About Farafina: the Black Link

In March 2023, a tour across the US was launched under the banner FARAFINA: The Black Link. The braintrust of the initiative and the tour lead was Coumba Toure, a Senegalese/Malian activist, writer, mother and visionary. In collaboration and founding members are Nunu Kidane, Marcia Thomas, Emira Woods and Patricia Servant. After the end of the tour, there was strong agreement among all that the initiative needed to continue, to build on the past historic solidarity while promoting a future of possibilities.

Meet Our Team

Coumba Toure

Coumba Toure is the Chair of TrustAfrica, an institution that moves money to strengthen democracy and promote equitable development. Coumba is the former co-coordinator and current ambassador for Africans Rising for Justice, Peace and Dignity. She is a mother, a writer and a storyteller.

Nunu Kidane

Nunu Kidane is a founding-member and former Executive Director of Priority Africa Network, an advocacy organization focused on race and immigration. She is an ambassador for Africans Rising for Unity, Justice, Peace and Dignity.

Marcia Thomas

Marcia Thomas is the Executive Director of USA for Africa, a philanthropic initiative best known the recording of “We Are The World” and the “Hands Across America” e. Marcia also served as Deputy Director at OxFam America and has worked tirelessly towards building US-Africa solidarity

Emira Woods

Emira Woods is the Executive Director at Green Leadership Trust, an organization that strengthens the environmental movement by elevating People of the Global Majority into board level & executive leadership roles . Emira is a strategist, researcher, and advocate specializing in social impact and innovation

Patricia Lokwa Servant

Patricia Lokwa Servant is founder of Congo Love, an organization that aims to change the current narrative of Congo by showcasing Congo’s artwork and mesmerizing culture . Patricia is also a development consultant with Friends of the Congo and a radio host .
